Dr Khedija Arfaoui

Dr Khedija Arfaoui, feminist researcher, Tunisia – Dr. Khedija Arafoui is a feminist researcher and activist. Dr. Arfaoui has a B.A. in English and American Literature (Tunis University), an M.Phil. (George Washington University) and a Doctorate (Tunis University) in American and Women’s Studies. She taught at several secondary schools before joining the university. Dr. Arfaoui joined civil society in the mid-1980s and has been working extensively to promote environmental and women’s concerns at the grassroots. She is a member of several NGOs. In 2005, Dr. Arfaoui was a visiting scholar at Lake Forest College (Illinois) as a participant in the Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World. As a freelance researcher and lecturer, she participates in several international conferences. A feminist activist and researcher, she has published several articles and translated Tunisian feminist poetry and short stories. Dr. Arfaoui has written a book with Dr. Jane D. Tchaicha from Bentley University: The Tunisian Women’s Rights Movement: From Nascent Activism to Influential Power-broking (Routledge, published in June 2017) and their collaboration will continue on a new book project: the artistic production (literature, plastic and fine arts, and cinema) in post-revolutionary Tunisia. She has also written the preface of Evelyne Accad’s “Wounding Words” in a new edition by l’Harmattan (2016)
