Dr. Yakin Ertürk

Dr. Yakin Ertürk, Academic and Former UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Turkey
Dr. Yakin Ertürk was the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women (2003-2009), and until recently Professor of Sociology at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. She is a distinguished academic, published author and researcher and has served as faculty member in prominent universities around the world. Dr. Erturk was a Global Visiting Associate in Rutgers University’s Center for Women’s Global Leadership and the Institute for Women’s Leadership Consortium (Sept. 2017-April 2018). Her numerous international assignments include serving on the International Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic by the UNHRC and the Board of the Asylum and Migration Research Center in Ankara. She has also served on the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture. Dr. Ertürk holds a PhD in Development Sociology from Cornell University
